Enjoy the ride

Enjoy the ride - If there is one thing that can make you a better rider, it might not be another exercise, a new training method or an extra lesson. It might simply be remembering why you started. Most of us didn’t fall in love with horses because of scores, rankings or perfect transitions. We fell in love with the feeling. The sound of hooves on the arena surface. The smell of the stable. The quiet moments in the aisle. The partnership with a horse that chooses to trust us.

Yet somewhere along the way, it’s easy to get caught up in goals, expectations and constant improvement. The next competition. The next level. The next thing that needs fixing. And while ambition is a wonderful thing, it can sometimes make us forget to enjoy the journey. Because not every ride needs to be productive orperfect. And not every ride needs to end with the feeling that you’ve accomplished something extraordinary.

Sometimes a good ride is simply a ride that makes you smile. A relaxed hack through the woods. A horse that greets you at the gate. A quiet moment after training when you’re both standing in the sunshine. Those moments matter too. In fact, they may be some of the most important moments of all.

Because the riders who stay in this sport for decades often have one thing in common:
They never lose their love for horses.
They continue to enjoy the small things.
They continue to appreciate the privilege of spending time with these incredible animals.

And perhaps that’s one of the biggest secrets to becoming a better rider. Not riding more. Not pushing harder. Not chasing perfection. But remembering to enjoy the ride.

🤍 Mini challenge
During your next ride, take one moment to simply appreciate where you are. The horse beneath you. The partnership you’ve built. The fact that you get to do something you love. No goals. No pressure. Just you and your horse.
